This award, presented by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, is a testament to the way in which the studio building was designed to be a self-contained lesson in construction methods.
By leaving building details deliberately exposed, the design presents students with the opportunity to learn from the building itself and not just the activities within. It is now common practice for students working in the studios to use it as a reference point in the design process and it acts as a constant reminder that proper detailing is essential for good buildings.
