York EcoDepot
York City council's EcoDepot has won an award from the Institution of Civil Engineers (Ice), it has been revealed.
Green Building Press reports that president of Ice Quentin Leiper presented support services and construction company Carillion with the prize from the Institute of Civil Engineers Yorkshire and Humberside Award scheme.
The depot was reportedly hailed as a UK-wide example of sustainable construction and is primarily constructed from locally grown straw bales and the depot also makes use of a rainwater harvesting system.
According to Green Building Press, the EcoDepot is listed on the European energie-cites website as a "shining example to the whole of Europe".
