The Proving House

101 Sevier Street, Bristol, BS2 9LB.

Company Registration Number - 3499053 (UK)

National Pinetum

Bedgebury

The building is designed to be wholly inclusive and encourage access by all to the facilities and trails within the Pinetum. The building includes a Bike Hub providing the hire of bikes to be used on the variety of trails across the Pinetum, a kiosk and out door eating area, a community learning room which will be available for use by community groups and which will also double as an indoor learning space for school groups.

The building therefore has two distinct halves, a very public left “wing” that houses the bike hub and kiosk and a community / children's education half that houses the community/ learning space and education room and an office for the Friends of the Pinetum. Between these two wings of the building is an ancillary block which houses the necessary toilets and changing facilities for use by the bikers and school groups.

The construction of the building used the latest building techniques to enhance quality and construction speed. It has been constructed from a pre-made timber log system delivered to site ready for erection. A thoughtful wholly timber proposal, powered in part by biomass heat production, supports and reflects  the ethos of the Forestry Commission.
