Through White Design, Dairy farmers Chris and Simon Redding have imaginatively realised an ‘eco-office’ development using redundant farm buildings.  By reusing existing structures, both timber and steel, naturally ventilated and day lit offices are now completed.

The project consisting of both traditional ‘barn’ outbuildings and cow sheds are transformed into low energy office accommodation.  Using geothermal heat pumps, automated ventilation systems and ‘super’ levels of insulation from the straw bales, the scheme aims to be carbon-neutral.

Using ‘farm’ standard bales (2.5x1x1m) the steel cow sheds are being clad in loadbearing, lime rendered strawbale panels. With a combined floor area of close to 1000sqm this could be the largest commercial strawbale building in the country.
