Karl Hutchison

Karl joined White Design in mid 2006 and is Project Architect for the redevelopment  of Hamilton House, Bristol for Connollly and Callaghan. The scheme is the sustainable renovation of an existing 1970s office building in the city centre to accommodate a mixture of uses including 67 residential units, ancillary office accommodation and retail space.

Since joining White Design Karl has also been involved in developing proposals for 54 affordable residential units on a canal side site at Troopers Field, Chester and in developing Modcell (sustainable, prefabricated straw bale cladding panels) for use in housing developments.

Graduating from Liverpool University in 1991, Karl further developed his own education and interest in sustainable architecture through a PhD in Sustainable City Design. The study developed a support framework for low energy sustainable self-build/participative housing. This work underlines and influences his approach to all architectural projects.

Karl has over 8 years experience as a Project Architect covering a range of building types, project sizes and contracts, but focussing particularly on the housing sector, both social and market-led.
