Louise Ciotti
Louise joined White Design in 2005 and has led a number of architectural schemes within the practice. She project managed the design of Bordeaux Quay, an 18th C industrial shed on Bristol’s harbour-side transformed into a large organic food establishment. The architecture aimed to echo the quality of the food in its concept, being simple yet sophisticated, beautiful and sustainable.
Louise’s current activities include analysing embodied energy for the materials and construction process and measuring sequestered carbon for various office projects (eg. BRE Innovation Park; Dalby Forest Visitor’s Centre). This work strives to better inform the design process for office-wide design jobs in developing zero carbon buildings and to form the basis of a design toolkit.
Educated at the University of Sheffield, Louise graduated in 2001 with distinction. She further developed her interest in community-based design through her involvement with the Design Research Institute, devising methods of giving the wider community a voice in how to put Single Regeneration Budget money to best use.
Louise has since lived in Porto, Portugal, working with a renowned local architect Carlos Nuno Lacerda Lopes on competitions and conceptual ideas for housing, a youth hostel, and urban spaces. Prior to joining White Design, she was part of Alec French Partnership, where she developed an interest in the health aspects of materials through design work for Bristol Cancer Help Centre’s new premises. Other work included design development of an African Caribbean Arts Centre and the design and construction of a Bristol secondary school.
